GORUCK Ascent

GORUCK Ascent

To help raise funds for the Green Beret Foundation I am traveling to Colorado to complete the GORUCK Ascent– a 100-hour unique experience where we will be climbing a number of peaks over 14,000 feet led by several active duty Special Forces members.

The US Army Special Forces are a more evolved soldier. They are trained in warfare, yet educated in peace and compassion. It is this same elite leadership characteristic that I hope to continue to develop throughout my life, and share with those I connect with.

GORUCK GroundZero

GORUCK Ascent

Ground Zero will always represent GORUCK's origins, so when the Challenge comes to NYC – and we have been back often – it has special meaning for us. So we’re coming back for the tenth anniversary.

The Challenge’s roots are the fraternal ways of Special Forces, and the Special Forces way is to celebrate the life of fallen heroes no matter what. We see this NYC 9/11 Challenge weekend similarly – a time to be together, share and honor the best of the city and its people, and do it our way.

Water Tribe North Carolina Challenge

Water Tribe

My name is David Selden. After 20 years in the Army, I retired from 3rd Special Forces Group in November 2008, and moved to the Wilmington, NC area with my family, where a brief introduction to the sport of kayaking quickly developed into what my wife calls an obsession for kayaking. I have never looked back.

Always looking for a new challenge, I decided to enroll in the 100Mile North Carolina Challenge, to be held on September 30, 2011. Hosted by Watertribe, this race is a self-supported expedition style small boat race. I will run this 21/2 day race alone, and will carry all supplies needed during that time. In an effort to provide even more incentive to myself to actually participate in and finish the race, I have decided to raise money for the Green Beret Foundation.
