The Steel Magnolias is an exclusive group of female caregivers, spouses and Gold Star wives that have faced tragedy, challenges and adversity head on while continuing to demonstrate the warrior ethos and implementing it into their daily lives to continue to support their families and their Green Berets. This is an exclusive Green Beret group with one SOF Chapter at Ft. Bragg, NC. Those that demonstrate a high level of patriotism to our Country, the Green Beret Community and the Spartan female spirit are the only that gain membership to this elite group. The Steel Mags was specifically created to serve as a sorority to perpetuate female strength, adaptability and endurance. The Steel Mags perpetuates the phrase “force multipliers”. They are the epitome of the Spartan female force.
Steel Magnolias provides a safe, accepting, and stable setting for caregivers of wounded, ill and injured soldiers and Gold Star wives of the Special Forces Community. We offer unconditional support, provide access to critical resources, advocacy and experienced guidance for our Gold Star wives and wounded Green Beret wives in order to manage and navigate through the life long journey to a successful recovery for both Green Beret survivor and caregivers of our wounded Green Berets.
The GBF’s Steel Magnolias Group is overseen by the GBF’s Executive Director a spouse of an 18d with 3rd SFG who was traumatically wounded serving in OEF. The Steel Mags is not a replacement for Family Readiness Groups. We do not duplicate what is already set in place. We supplement existing support. We foster healing, sisterhood, friendship and perpetuate the exclusive Steel Mags’ sorority. We closely monitor activities within each chapter and our closed forum blog ensuring productivity while not stifling the healing process. Although we thoroughly understand the reasons for the need for the group and memberships, we do not tolerate unhealthy behavior that is destructive to the group as a whole or takes away from the group. We keep information that is communicated within the groups and chapters confidential but respect our duty to warn.
